On International Women’s Day, the APTPUO celebrates the efforts of women and activists to fight gender oppression and the economic, cultural, social, and political structures that foster inequity. These efforts have led to benefits for all workers such as increases in minimum wage and safer workplaces. Women’s paid and unpaid labour is essential to the functioning of the neoliberal economy and the corporatized university. Thus, ensuring that our employer follows The Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act (Bill 148) becomes essential to ensure equal pay for equal work. The APTPUO affirms its commitment to gender equity and working towards a more inclusive and violence-free university environment. Women’s rights are human rights and when all women can fully participate in all avenues of society, everyone benefits.
