Call for proposals

To be held October 25-26, 2019 at the University of Ottawa.

The APTPUO academic conference allows part-time professors to present their research to a diverse audience and hear keynote lectures by renowned speakers.

This year’s theme will consider visibility and invisibility within the profession, and will seek to highlight, challenge and examine the dynamics of academic invisibility within a local, national and international context. This theme invites and encourages discussion across faculties and institutions.

Some guiding questions for this theme include, but are not limited to:

  • What links exist between invisibility and precarious employment?
  • What are the diverse perspectives on labour invisibility in the academic context?
  • How can we educate for our own visibility as members of the academic community?
  • What are some new methodological approaches that contribute to the visibility of contractual academic staff?

We invite submissions that offer a critical, in-depth analysis of the issues or questions that challenge and examine invisibility in the following formats: posters; papers; creative works; and panel discussions (3-4 people).

We welcome submissions in all academic areas that will inspire, challenge, and stretch personal assumptions, academic categories, and pedagogical approaches to discussing the theme of (in)visibility of part-time professors.

French, English, or bilingual presentations are encouraged. Conference submissions must include a publication-ready, titled abstract of 200-300 words. The presenter’s name, e-mail address, university affiliation, title, and any special needs must also be included. Panel submissions must be presented in one document, with the contact information and abstracts from all members in the one document.

Proposals are to be submitted by June 1, 2019. All received submissions will be acknowledged. Notification of acceptance will be sent by June 15, 2019. Please send all proposals and requests for information to conference@aptpuo.ca
