FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
uOttawa Part-Time Professors Reach a Tentative Agreement
The Bargaining Committee is pleased to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement with the employer for the renewal of the collective agreement for the APTPUO’s main unit and its 2500 members.
Yesterday morning, the Association of Part-time Professors of the University of Ottawa (APTPUO) informed its members that negotiations with the employer for the main unit have once again reached an impasse. The APTPUO Strike Committee has called on its members to undertake actions to support the efforts of the Bargaining Committee.
In the last few hours, we have witnessed an unprecedented mobilization of our members following this announcement. In addition, we would like to acknowledge the tremendous solidarity shown by our students in the hours following the announcement. In a very short period of time, our email inboxes were filled with messages of support from students and allies, demonstrating the importance to our community of ensuring a high-quality education.
This bargaining round was particularly difficult, and the legislation imposed by Ford’s government made it even more challenging. However, with the support of our members and students, we were able to reach an agreement that provides for better working conditions.
Please note that the terms of the tentative agreement cannot be made public until the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors and the APTPUO membership have approved it. The Association will soon call a special general assembly where the proposed conditions will be presented to its members and ratified by a vote.
